City Tours

GRAN TOUR OF MILANO
h. 9,30 am -
from Tuesday to Sunday

Guided bus and walking tour for a panoramic view of the city with two-language speaking tour guide. The 1 hour walking tour includes a visit of The Scala, Duomo and the Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery. This tour includes also a guided visit to "The Last Supper", the world-famous painting of Leonardo da Vinci, located near the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
The hard-working Milanese run their busy metropolis with efficiency and aplomb. Milano is the country's economic engine room, home to Italy's stock market and business centre. This stylish city is also the world's design capital and rivals Paris as a leading fashion centre.
Milan is all about worldly pleasures. Shopping is of almost religious significance. Theatre and cinema flourish in this fashionable milieu, as does a hopping club scene and a slew of tempting restaurants. Apart from a few gems, the city is not renowned for its looks, it's the lifestyle that counts!
History is achingly prominent here. The breathtaking Duomo is one of the world's largest, most striking gothic cathedrals, while Milan's art galleries, many housed in former palaces, are home to a host of significant works that include Da Vinci's “Last Supper”. You may even find yourself sipping your morning espresso in the same cafe that composer Verdi frequented. Milan receives more visitors than Venice or Florence, yet manages not to be a tourist trap - perhaps that's the real secret to Milan's style.

PROGRAM:
H. 9.30 Departure from Foro Bonaparte 76
Visit of the Castello Sforzesco courtyards, then bus transfer to Santa Maria delle Grazie church.
H. 10.30 Visit of Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper"

LAKE COMO
h. 9,00am - every Saturday

Visit of Como and boat trip on the lake looking at its beautiful "villas".

With a surface of 146 square kilometres, Lake Como is the third- largest lake in Italy, after Lake Garda and Lake Verbano. Its peculiar shape - a Y turned upside down - is due to its three branches: Colico, the northern branch, Lecco, the south east branch and Como, the south west branch, with a perimeter totalling 170 km; its maximum length, between Gera and Cernobbio, is 50 km; its maximum width, between Fiumelatte and Cadenabbia, is 4.4 km, whereas its minimum width, between Careno and Toriggia, is 650 m; between Como and Argegno, the lake reaches a depth of 410 m (it's the deepest lake in Europe). Average altitude above sea level is 199 m. The whole lake is surrounded by mountains. The highest is Monte Legnone (2609 m), over Colico. The lake has 37 tributaires. The most important is the river Adda. The only island on the Lake is Isola Comacina facing the village of Sala Comacina, on the Como branch.
Along the shores, in particular from Cernobbio to Gravedona and Bellagio, you will see wonderful villas and gardens with plenty of flowers as well as exotic and rare plants. For instance, Villa d'Este at Cernobbio, which is today a luxurious hotel, has a magnificent garden.
During the last century Como gained world fame because of the novel “The Betrothed”, by Alessandro Manzoni, set on the Lecco branch of the Lake.

VENICE
h. 7.00am - every Sunday

Venice really needs no introduction. The watery city, home to gondoliers in stripy jerseys singing in front of the Bridge of Sighs, has been a fabled holiday destination for centuries. Anyone who has visited Venice, has marvelled at St Mark's Square and exploring the city's maze of canals.
For centuries Venice was a republic of immense power; controlling trade routes in the Adriatic, and waging successful wars with rival states. Ruled by a doge, who had his powers controlled by a cabinet, Venice was a proud and rich republic, known as la Serenissima, the most serene. Every year the Doge would take part in a symbolic ceremony, the Marriage of the Sea, to celebrate Venice's mastery over the ocean.
Like most great powers, however, Venice's glory was followed by a decline. La Serenissima lost her chattels in wars, and the city's trade routes declined in importance after the discovery of the New World. By the eighteenth century, Venice was already seeking profits from the tourist trade, leasing fine ‘palazzi' to foreign travellers.
Venice is composed of more than a hundred tiny islets, packed closely together around canals. The city is in a lagoon, protected by the longer island of Venice Lido. Venice is famously sinking. Every year high water levels (acqua alta) threaten the city's fabric, and it has long been feared that the beautiful city will one day disappear beneath the water. Many ideas (and funds) have been put forward to protect the endangered heritage site; current plans include a giant water-gate.
